Sharing work and a little more....

I finished some work this past week I wanted to share.  But something else is on my mind this week as well. The past couple of days life has thrown me a curve ball.  Now I need to find that inner strength to step up and take the plunge.  In the next few weeks I will be opening an Etsy shop.  Keeping Notes will be opening soon!  In the meantime I wanted to share this work...

Water color and ink on paper

Knitted shower puff

Embroidered portrait of my daughter and her husband....

Have a great Thursday!

Snow day activities

I am having a snow day today. This is our first real snow of the season. I love my mini cooper but it doesn’t plow through snow packed country roads very well. So when I became stuck in my own driveway, and the thermometer read 0 degrees, it was an easy decision to call in and give myself a snow day.

Yesterday my normal 15 minute commute took 45. I always listen to NPR. Yesterday I was listening to Talk of the Nation and their interview with Karen Armstrong. I can't believe I've never heard of her before.  Her message is such a compelling one.  In 2008 she won the TED prize.  I found myself wanting to read her book,
Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life (Borzoi Books)
http://www.amazon.com/Twelve-Steps-Compassionate-Borzoi-Books/dp/0307595595/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid;=I1XGNAYA25HU1&colid;=2RZ1GY23295K1

I also found myself wanting to know more about this woman and her work. So today I’ve been reading and learning, and now joining the charter. You can learn more here: http://charterforcompassion.org/site/  And you can see and listen to her here: http://www.ted.com/speakers/karen_armstrong.html  Just think what the world would be like if we all followed the charter!  I hope we can all find a way to live more compassionately.  It seems human beings build up a tolerance to hearing things like what happened in Arizona.  Wouldn't being tolerant of each other make us more humane? I've always believed tolerance is the key.  Please help spread the word. The golden rule is truly a valuable lesson.

Another snow day joy, working on my next emboidery...
 and painting.....
and laundry.... and staying warm.  Hope you all stay warm as well!

Missing but now back to it

I've let myself fall out of the habit of blogging.  It's been so long since I've posted I decided to make my first return post about the projects I created in December.  So here goes:

This is my first attempt at book binding.

A book with a hidden box inside to hold your precious documents.

This is my first art doll, Alice in Wonderland.

I knitted and felted a crown....
... for our Champion to wear.

And I embroidered a portrait of her.

This is my first silver ring made with pmc.

I knitted a sampler scarf.

I knit my first pair of socks.

and knit and felted these necklaces.

This is the next embroidered portrait I'm doing for my daughter's birthday.

I got a water color set for Christmas and painted this.   I love them!

And finally I knitted and felted this handbag.

I actually made two, the second in pink but failed to get a picture of it.
It was a busy month. My studio needs a major clean up and organization.  I have so many ideas for new pieces of work, and there's so many new things I want to try. And I hope to make 2011 the year that it becomes a profitable part time job!

I also hope to do a much better job with this blog.  Here's to New Year's Resolutions!
