What's changed?

What has changed in the world since that day; nationally, globally, personally?

We all know where we were, what we were doing, who we talked to.

For me, I was worried for my brother who was watching the towers burn from his office window.  He spent the night there, unable to get home.

All of these faces, lost loved ones.

.

My brother is gone now.  Not on that day but not too long after.

When I remember that day, I remember him.

Loved one lost......  in my changed world.

What did you learn today?

I've admired poetry from afar.  With my new coursera class, Modern and Contemporary American Poetry, I'm hoping that will change.

The first poem assigned:

I dwell in Possibility

BY EMILY DICKINSON
I dwell in Possibility –
A fairer House than Prose –
More numerous of Windows –
Superior – for Doors –

Of Chambers as the Cedars –
Impregnable of eye –
And for an everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky –

Of Visitors – the fairest –
For Occupation – This –
The spreading wide my narrow Hands
To gather Paradise –

Want to delve in deeper?

Whittling

Ever since I saw this baby spoon on this blog.....

And this butter knife on this blog.......

I have been smitten!! I have to learn how to do this!!!
But I have to start somewhere....

So I started with a mushroom, that started from a block like what it sits on.

I'm so excited for my next project.  I am addicted!

School days....

There are definite moments in life when you feel your age, this being one of them  Our first grandchild started school on Thursday.  So to mark the occasion, Grandma made some of her favorite things........

A book necklace for secret notes.....

A jumper with a special pocket.....

And a library skirt......

My teacher daughters have now both requested an adult version of the skirt.

Hard to get a picture when she's busy writing.

And mom got these awesome, wonderful cookies!

And we are all left wondering just how we arrived her so quickly!!

Idol worship

I can’t quite describe the feeling.  The word that comes closest is thrilling; and yet it still doesn’t quite do it.  How do I describe the feeling of standing in front of a piece of work from one of my favorite artists?  I first experienced this as a young adult when I saw Van Gogh’s self portrait in Chicago.  I had been in love with him since I was a child!

Well yesterday I was lucky enough to have the experience again when we went to see Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s exhibit at the Nelson.

I can't describe it; leaning in to see the brush strokes, imagining the emotions she felt while she painted them.
I

I think maybe just a small issue added to the many others in their marriage might have been a little bit of jealousy....
Frida
Diego

After seeing their work side by side, in my opinion, she was much better than him.
What an exciting day!

And on a side note.....

I don't know why it hasn't occurred to me before to make a Frida doll.  My own version will be coming soon!
